Europe’s blockchain scene is facing challenges, but it is far from being left behind. Blockchain job postings in Europe have dropped by 90% since 2022, driven by high energy costs, slow regulations, and reliance on traditional banking. Yet, Europe continues to produce global disruptors like Austria’s Bitpanda and London-based DeFi unicorn Avara (formerly Aave).

The 11th European Blockchain Convention (EBC11), taking place in Barcelona on October 16-17, aims to showcase that Europe is still a key player in blockchain infrastructure and innovation. “While the U.S. headlines with bold regulatory updates, Europe is quietly building the foundation for the next generation of finance,” says Victoria Gago, Co-Founder of EBC.

Rising Investments and Innovation in European Fintech

EBC11 will feature over 100 sessions on tokenization, DeFi, institutional crypto, AI, privacy, security, and startup competitions. Speakers include top industry leaders: Anthony Scaramucci (SkyBridge Capital), Erald Ghoos (OKX), Lukas Enzersdorfer-Konrad (Bitpanda), Matthew Hougan (Bitwise Asset Management), Leon Marshall (Galaxy), and Anthony Bassili (Coinbase Asset Management).

Fintech in Europe remains strong, with investment increasing 23% to €3.6 billion in H1 2025, according to Finch Capital. U.S. investors accounted for 28% of European fintech deals, reflecting a growing international appetite for the continent’s digital finance innovation. Additionally, Europe is making progress on its digital euro initiative, with the ECB and EU member states close to agreement on key design parameters.

Networking at EBC11 will be a highlight. For the first time in a European crypto event, the convention will host over 10,000 one-on-one meetings (1:1) using the EBC networking app. Attendees can browse profiles, schedule meetings, and connect efficiently with founders, investors, developers, and corporate leaders. Sponsored meetings allow partners to target key contacts for highly productive business conversations. Last year, EBC facilitated over 300 meetings with a 90% satisfaction rate.

With a combination of informative sessions, startup battles, and a powerful meetings program, EBC11 demonstrates Europe’s ongoing leadership in blockchain, fintech, and digital finance. It is the platform where innovation, talent, and investment converge to define the future of finance.
